Walliscote's Young Journalists
In 2026, Walliscote was chosen by ELAN, to pilot the Young Journalists project with The Good News Post within the multi-academy trust.
What is The Good News Post?
The Good News Post is a global publishing platform and campaign inspired by the life and values of the late British television presenter Jill Dando. It trains young people aged 4 to 21 to act as "reporters of hope" by writing, interviewing, and publishing uplifting news stories from schools and communities. Its aim is to celebrate kindness, achievement and positive news — the things that make us smile and feel proud of where we live.
The initiative originated from Jill Dando News and the "Good News Rooms" project in Dando's hometown of Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
How is Walliscote involved?
As part of their training, working alongside The Good News Post, the young journalists have learned what it means to practise journalism, the key elements of writing engaging and eye-catching articles and building up confidence in interviewing others. These young reporters have even had training from BBC journalists!
Walliscote Primary School regularly features in The Good News Post. Children help to write articles, take photos and report on the wonderful things happening in and around our school.

We are so incredibly proud of our young journalists, and to be the very first local primary school in our academy-trust to pilot such a wonderful project-working to promote live, on the ground journalism in schools and empowering our children to speak out and use their voices!!
