RSHE - family information

At Walliscote School, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is taught to support children in developing healthy, respectful relationships and to help them understand how to keep themselves safe. RSE is an important part of our personal, social and health education and is delivered in an age‑appropriate, inclusive and sensitive manner.

In the primary phase, RSE focuses on friendships, family relationships, respect, managing feelings, personal boundaries and online safety. In the later years, children learn about growing and changing as part of the science curriculum. All content is carefully planned to be appropriate to the age, maturity and needs of the pupils.

Parents and carers are informed in advance about when RSE will be taught and the content that will be covered. Walliscote School recognises the important role parents play in their child’s education and welcomes opportunities to discuss the RSE curriculum and answer any questions or concerns.

In line with current legislation, relationships education is compulsory for all pupils. However, parents have the right to request that their child is withdrawn from the sex education elements of RSE (outside the statutory science curriculum). We ask they speak to the Headteacher if they wish to do this.
